The Food And Diet Trends Set To Dominate 2023

One of the biggest things people like to do when the New Year rolls around is get on top of their health. Plenty of food and diet trends usually start to emerge around the start of the year as people hope to live the healthiest lives they can, even if it means entirely changing things for the year.

The food and diet trends set to dominate 2023 are no different, with plenty already looking as though they’re going to dominate the market. The question is: are they things that we should be incorporating into our lives, too, or are they just trends?

Purple tomatoes could give us more health benefits than red ones

When we think of tomatoes, there’s a good chance the red fruit - yes, fruit - is the thing that comes to mind. While they have been a part of our everyday lives for years, it seems that 2023 could see the rise of the purple tomato. The USDA approved the use of the new tomato in September 2022, meaning it now comes with an increased anthocyanin than ever. As well as giving the tomatoes their new vegetable color, they could help to block free radicals that damage cells in our bodies and cause inflammation, in turn preventing certain illnesses. Adding purple tomatoes to our lives could be the things we need to help battle things like diabetes and heart illnesses, which are known to be caused by inflammation in our bodies.

Ginseng has been used for years due to its health benefits

Although ginseng has been used around the world for generations, it’s on;y recently come back into the food trend market. 2023 could see a new rise in all things ginseng, thanks to the idea that it can help to reduce inflammation in our bodies and reduce our blood sugar levels. Google Trends shows that searchers for the stuff are up 8% in the US, suggesting it will be used more than ever in things like tea next year. Still, it’s always best to check with health professionals, as too much ginseng can impact people already living with diabetes.

Sustainable seafood could see more people eat a balanced diet

For years, people have been turning to more of a plant-based diet for several reasons. Health is one of the biggest, as well as the environmental impact of eating meat. Is that about to change in 2023? It certainly looks that way. Although the demand for fish has been up in recent times, many have avoided the food group due to the impact it often has on the environment. Several companies have confirmed they’re no longer stocking certain foods or buying from various suppliers in a bid to help ocean life, with others looking into ways to farm seafood indoors instead.

Copycat recipes could reduce the need to eat out

Eating out can be a tempting option for plenty of us, as the idea of cooking a full meal at the end of a long day can be enough to put plenty of us off eating at all. Still, 2023 could mark the rise of copycat recipes. They are nothing new. Plenty of chefs have tried to recreate those famous flavors from their favorite restaurants at home with some incredible results. The idea of looking after our health, teamed with the rising cost of eating out, could mean that more of us find ourselves eating homemade versions of our favorite restaurant meals instead of grabbing our keys and heading out the door each night.

All the food and diet trends set to dominate 2023 certainly look exciting for foodies everywhere. The best bit? With so much emphasis on health and sustainability, it might not be long before the food market becomes the best it’s ever been.
