Everything To Know About Alkaline Diets

If you’ve been anywhere near reports about the latest diet sweeping through Hollywood, you might have seen alkaline diets mentioned more than once. So what are alkaline diets, and how do they work? For one, they come with some big promises, such as claiming to help avoid several health problems and allowing people to drop pounds.

The idea is to eat food that forces our bodies to make and consume more alkaline, which allegedly does everything it claims this diet does for our health. Does it work, though? That’s what many want to know, which is why learning everything to know about alkaline diets could be all we need.

What is on and off the menu with alkaline diets?

One of the first things people want to know before embarking on any dietary change is what the new program says they can and can’t eat. Alkaline diets are no exception, with a huge emphasis on foods that are naturally high in alkaline. That means things like fruit and vegetables make up most meals. Tofu, soybeans, some legumes, and some nuts and seeds are also included. However, things like processed food, packaged snacks, canned goods, grains, meat, eggs, and dairy are off the menu. Many people prompting alkaline diets also say people shouldn’t drink adult beverages or consume caffeine either.

Are alkaline diets easy to follow?

If you want a diet that doesn’t promote a certain amount of exercise a week or makes use of fresh produce, then the alkaline diet might not be so much of a change. However, it can take time for people to learn how to prepare all the new food if they don’t tend to cook from scratch each time. Plus, following alkaline diets might also mean you need to make more trips to the grocery store to ensure your cupboards are always fully stocked with fresh food over packaged snacks. Many might also find it tough to cut out certain food groups.

Does the diet work for people with restrictions or on a budget?

Being made up of mostly fruits and vegetables while cutting out meat means that vegetarians should find it easy to follow an alkaline diet. Removing dairy also means that vegans should be able to follow with ease. However, avoiding gluten entirely will mean people need to read labels carefully to check nutrients. The same goes for people with nut allergies, as many are included as a part of several meals. Regarding budget, it all depends on how much you want to follow alkaline diets. There are several free sources available with recipe ideas and support. Still, investing solely in fresh produce might prove to be more costly for some.

Do alkaline diets work?

If there’s one thing many want to know, it’s if alkaline diets really work. They might. However, it might not be due to the claims the diet makes. It says that the alkaline diet balances the pH level of our blood, which is naturally slightly alkaline. Still, our diet will never change that too much as our bodies naturally keep things balanced. Regardless, eating mainly fresh produce can do wonders for our health, help us drop some pounds, and benefit our major organs. Does that mean we need to follow an alkaline diet? That’s still up for debate.

If you’ve been wondering about alkaline diets, you’re not alone. While the emphasis on fresh produce is a major selling point for many, others argue there are other ways to include these in our meal plans without following alkaline diets. After all, they might not come with the health promises they promote.
