How To Cook The Perfect Breakfast Sandwich - In The Microwave
It can be easy to think of the microwave as nothing more than something to reheat those leftovers. Now, it seems it might be just the thing we need to make the perfect breakfast sandwich. Yes, you heard us correctly: it’s cooked in the microwave.
Whether you’re in a rush, don’t want to worry about washing up all the dishes once you’re done, or you just want to impress your loved ones with your new kitchen hacks, there are so many reasons to create meals in the microwave. The best bit? You don’t need many ingredients to create a delicious meal to start the day.
What you’ll need
- 2 slices of ham
- 2 sausage patties
- 1 - 2 eggs
- Several rashers of bacon
- 1 English muffin
- Any additions you like

1. Arrange all the meat
To start the perfect breakfast sandwich, you want to arrange the meat on a plate. Take two slices of ham and cut them into quarters, and put them in a circle on the plate. Then, add two sausage patties in the gaps before placing a microwavable mug in the middle of it all. Of course, be sure to check that you can microwave your plate before whipping up this breakfast.
2. Create your eggs
You’ll want to make sure your mug is big enough to take as many eggs as you’d like for your breakfast sandwich. One or two are usually sufficient for one person, so take this into consideration when planning. Crack however many eggs you need into the mug before adding a splash of milk and a little salt and pepper. Mix this all together with a fork until they’re nice and fluffy. Add the plate to the microwave for two minutes, but keep an eye on your eggs to ensure they cook thoroughly without bubbling over.

3. Cook the bacon
Next, you want to move onto the bacon. Take several rashers of bacon and arrange them on a separate plate with enough room in between each one. Add them to the microwave for four to seven minutes. However, don’t leave this unattended. Cook the bacon for four minutes and check the meat before adding it back to the microwave if it needs a little longer. Just be sure to check the bacon after each minute to ensure it doesn’t burn.
4. Prepare the ingredients
Take enough English muffins for as many sandwiches as you need. Cut these in half and add them to the toaster or under the grill until they are lightly toasted. Then, take your mug of eggs and tip it over - you may need to loosen them with a knife first. This needs to be cut into strips so it can be easily added to your sandwich. Now, it’s time for the fun part.

5. Assemble your sandwich
Assembling the perfect breakfast sandwich means you can get a little creative. So long as you start and finish with your English muffin, then you’re good to go! You can even add anything you like for some extra flavor, such as avocado, spinach, or cheese. Ensure you have a bit of meat and egg in each before serving them up. Want to save them for another day? Wrap each sandwich in a paper towel that’s been dampened before wrapping the entire thing in parchment papers. These can be placed in a Ziploc bag and frozen for up to one month.
Who would have thought the perfect breakfast sandwich could be made in the microwave? Those Sunday breakfasts just got a whole lot more interesting.
